Soca music lost one of its legends today as the news of the death of Dexter Stewart, well known in the industry as ‘Blaxx’ was announced. The news of his passing was confirmed by his manager Giselle Gellineau-Penrose.

Over the past few weeks the soca community has been praying and hoping for a smooth recovery for the 61 years old soca star who was hospitalized on March 4, 2022.  Blaxx has been battling the Covid-19 virus and was in the Intensive Care Unit at the Arima Hospital.  Many also feared the worst as Blaxx was also recovering after being hospitalized in 2020 with lung and kidney issues.

Today, unfortunately those fears made its way home to our hearts as news of his passing flooded the soca community and family, friends and fans has since been pouring out their hurt and sadness about the news:

Over the year’s Blaxx’s has been one of the most consistent soca talents of this era, his vocals, stage presence and live performances was certainly infectious and would surely be missed. He has given us timeless soca anthems that will continue to live on in our hearts including ‘Rankin Thing’, ‘Leh Go’, ‘Hulk’, ‘Gyal Owner’, ‘Same Way’, and his 2022 mega hit ‘Mash Up’.
