This one is for all our soca lovers out there….let’s talk favourite soca songs for 2022 thus far!
With so many top soca releases making their way to our monthly playlists, it is only right that we at Caribbean Entertainment Hub curate a playlist of the top soca songs for 2022.
While putting together our ‘crème of the crop’ soca picks, we couldn’t help but noticed that so far our top soca releases have been seriously favoring the groovy side of soca with almost 90% of the songs featured being a groovy soca song. Do you think there is a reason behind this shift in the soca wave this year? Do you think the effects of the pandemic and no official Carnival could have influenced this? We would love to hear from you!
Another noticeable mention is that although our top soca release thus far, comes from a female soca singer, the men continue to dominate this year as reflected in our ratio of men to women on our list. Hmmm, interesting!
But enough with the stats, we’re here for the music, so let’s dive right into it by highlighting our top (3) picks. First is the soca Queen who honestly needs no introduction at this point. Year, after year Patrice Roberts continues to prove that consistency is a significant key to being successful in the soca game, as she continues to dominate the soca stage every year. With her 2022 offering, Patsy’s mega soca hit ‘Mind My Business’ surely gave the term ‘viral’ a whole new meaning in our books.
Moving on next, we have the Bamboo King ‘Melick’, with his hit soca song and ladies wining anthem ‘Tek Bamboo’. Whoever knew the word ‘Bamboo’ was going to be such a huge part of our vocabulary this year…lol. Melick hit single dominated the airwaves and social media this year and continues to be a crowd favorite whenever the song comes on.
And finally, the one and only Kes, with his groovy soca love song, ‘Jolene’. This one had all the ladies feeling like Kes was delivering personal soca serenades to all his female soca fans and no one can tell them anything differently…lol. The music visuals which also added a unique flavor was very reminiscent of the traditions of Trinbago’s past. And we certainly continue to enjoy every minute of it with the replay button one click away.
One honorary mention that we just had to highlight is the late great ‘Blaxx’ contribution for this year ‘Mash Up’. We are truly grateful that we got to see him perform this song live before he passed and we would like to say ‘Thank you Blaxx’ for your contribution to soca and our culture as he continues to Rest in Peace.

Rest in Peace ‘Blaxx’
We are sure that our playlist below is loaded with many of your favorite soca artistes and releases f0r 2022, so check out our full playlist below. Take a listen and enjoy!

By: Adela ScotlandNow that Afrobeat creators have the opportunity to win the prestigious award in their own category it begs the question why hasn’t Soca gotten its own category yet?
